He is a Professor of Biochemistry and Genetics. He is a Member of Bio-X and Child Health Research Institute. He got Young Faculty Research Award from Society of the Sigma Xi (1976)and Award in Microbiology and Immunology, Eli Lilly and Co. (1976) .He was Elected to the National Academy of Sciences-Genetics (1983).He got Distinguished Alumni Award from Eastern Illinois University (1984)and Biotechnology Research Award from Chiron Corporation (1998).He got Lifetime Achievement Award from Genetics Society of America (2004) .
