He is a Former Dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine.He is a Professor of Microbiology & Immunology and Member of Stanford Cancer Institute.He is a member of Board of Directors of Lucille Packard Children's Hospital (2001 - 2012), Board of Directors, Stanford Hospital & Clinics (2001 - 2012) and Founding Director of The Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute (2013 - Present).He got John Howland Award from American Pediatric Society (2012),Philip M Lippe Award from The American Academy of Pain (2012).
