Biography

Associate Professor at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics where he is Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research, Director of CUBE - Católica Lisbon Research Unit in Business and Economics and Director of the doctoral program in Technology Change and Entrepreneurship (jointly offered with Carnegie Mellon University and IST). He is also Director of several executive education programs including the Advanced Program on Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management (PAEGI) and the Supply Chain Management Program. PhD in Operations Technology and Innovation Management (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). MSc in Operations Research and Systems Engineering and “licenciado” (undergrad degree) in Naval Engineering (IST). Advanced training at the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University). Previously he was Academic Director of the LisbonMBA (a joint-venture with MIT Sloan); International Faculty Fellow (IFF) at MIT Sloan School of Management; Project Leader of Creative Commons Portugal.  He is the founder and Project Leader of Patient Innovation and co-founder of PPL - Crowdfunding Portugal.  His research focuses on open and user innovation, with particular emphasis on the role of patients and caregivers in the development of medical technologies, products and services. His research has appeared in Production and Operations Management (POM), Research Policy, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM), International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Technological Forecasting and Change Social, Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, among other.
