Biography

  Olena Madden received her BSc. (Hons) in Pharmaceutical and Forensic Analysis from Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) in 2012. Olena was granted an IRCSET scholarship in 2012 and is currently working under the supervision of Dr Patrick Murray towards her PhD entitled ‘Green biosynthesis and applications of plasmonic nanoparticles using extracellular systems of extremophilic fungi’. Her work focuses on the optimisation of the environmentally benign methods for the synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles and their potential applications. Olena is at the final stages of her PhD and is also employed by the Limerick Institute of Technology as a researcher on Enterprise Ireland sponsored Environmental Engineering protect that involves safety, efficiency and emission testing of solid fuel burning domestic appliances.
