Biography

Nathalie Scheers' research focus on metal, in particular iron, intestinal absorption. She is especially concerned with possible pro-cancerous effects of fortificant and supplemental iron commonly used in general foods or administered to targeted groups. She works with human cellines to elucidiate mechanisms of absorption and its regulation as well as the expression of tumour-associated proteins. Metals play an important role in cellular processes and metal deficiency or overload may lead to several diseases.
