Dr. Mumtaz have a brilliant academic career having passed all the examinations in honor which include B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Hons.) degrees from the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad followed by a Ph.D. and postdoctoral training from the prestigious University of Sheffield, UK. He had been serving the Instt. of Horticultural Science, UAF as faculty since 1986 and recently joined Sultan Qaboos University, Oman as Associate Professor (Hort.). At UAF, He founded Citrus Nursery Sanitation Lab. ever first in the country. He had organized international symposium and a national workshop on “Production of disease free citrus nursery plants (Production, certification and challenges)” 12-13 Sep. 2007, International symposium on prospects of horticultural industry in Pakistan, 28-30 March, 2007 and edited/published proceedings, sponsored by the external donors. At SQU He took an initiative and started two major research activities on the use of waste-water and deficit irrigation in agriculture. He secured internal research grant and research proposals have been submitted for extramural grants too. He has worked abroad for >10 years in some of the finest institutions, where he undertook diverse research and teaching assignments. Teamwork has been essence of my career (leadership of multidisciplinary teams, multidisciplinary projects and multi-author publications) and He always enjoyed excellent inter-personal relations with colleagues. He served as head of research group on pomology and has held membership of several professional societies too. As a professor and director of research projects (national & international) He has been fully involved in financial and administrative management, public relations and community services/extension work. He has published largely in peer reviewed journals, extension articles, books and conference proceedings. In recognition of my services to science/agriculture and community, He was decorated with the prestigious Presidential Civil Award during 2007.
His research interests include: 1. To explore soil fertility, water productivity and potential use of waste water in agriculture 2. To develop sustainable greenhouse vegetable production system 3. To understand abiotic stress tolerance mechanism in horticultural crop plants 4. Disease free nursery production system in horticultural crops 5. Use of Nano-Science in agriculture
