"Supported Distance is an area that I am working in constantly at the moment. Making the connections with students and helping them to work in the flexible learning space is now a part of my everyday activity. Connections with learners comes in many different ways from phone consultations, to face to face consultations and 'open door' tutorials. Bringing students to the university space whether it be a physical space or a virtual space is a part of the practice I favour. Making the connections so that students feel comfortable reciprocating communication and engaging in the learning is paramount. Experience over the years has included Drama,Theatre and Literature studies and practice with a special emphasis on children with special needs, and Literacy, English, and Drama in the secondary school. My teaching vocation over the last 25 years has included both private and state sectors in both a P-12 school and secondary high school in southern and central Queensland respectively. Teaching experience in the university sector, has included Literacy and English pedagogy, managing diversity in the classroom and teaching methodology course work. My area of special interest includes research and discussion around children with Down Syndrome purely because, my own son Beni was born with an extra 21 chromosome and the journey demands my attention."
