"Dr. Mohamed Ali Basha is an associate professor at the Center for Nanotechnology and the Institute for Nanoscience and Informatics at Zewail City. Basha graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in electronics and communications engineering from Mansoura University in Egypt in 1996. He later joined the University of Waterloo in Canada where he received his Master of Science degree in 2002 in electrical and computer engineering, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the same field in 2007. Basha began his career in 1996, working as a teaching assistant at Mansoura University. After moving to Canada, Basha held various positions at the University of Waterloo. He started as a teaching assistant in 2000, then as a postdoctoral fellow in 2007. From 2009 to 2011, he served as a research associate. In 2011, he was appointed as an adjunct professor, a position that he currently holds. Basha was also an assistant professor at the University of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. In 2008 he founded and became the director of Hybridmicroassembly Solutions (HMS) Inc. in Waterloo, Canada, a high-tech company providing assembly stations and microassemby design and services for MEMS devices. He also serves as a reviewer on many journals including the Journal of Optics Express, the Journal of Micromechanics and Micromachining, the IEEE Transaction of Antenna and Propagation, and the IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letter. In recognition of his scientific efforts, Basha is the recipient of many awards including the Faculty of Engineering Scholarship from the University of Waterloo; the CMC Fabrication and Travel Award to perform MEMS potential fabrication at the University of Alberta; the University of Waterloo President's Graduate Scholarship; Nortel Institute’s distinguished award for establishing and supporting the Advanced Optical Networking Technology Laboratory in 2001. In addition to holding three patents, Basha has 46 publications in highly-ranked journals and conferences. Basha brings a wide range of expertise in millimeter and sub-millimeter wave and terahertz (THz) passive devices; design and fabrication of optical MEMS switches; fabrication of novel silicon-on-glass (SOG) technology platforms; and analytical modeling of finite grating."
