Sarah is the programme leader for the BEng (Hons)/MEng in Civil Engineering. She manages the everyday running of these programmes. Sarah teaches fluid mechanics and hydraulic analysis as well as supervising final year projects. Sarah takes part in surveying and geology field trips undertaken by students in the Engineering subject area. Sarah joined UEL as a full time lecturer in 2000. Sarah studied a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering (Sandwich course) at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University Of London. Sarah gained site experience working for Balfour Beatty on both the Bristol Bulk Handling Terminal and the widening of the North Circular (Hangar Lane to Harrow Road). Between 1996 and 1999 she worked as a research assistant on the large scale experimental Flood Channel Facility at Hydraulic Research Wallingford Ltd, carrying out an experimental investigation looking at sediment transport in meandering rivers. Sarah has served on several panels for programme validation; internal quality review and student appeals. Sarah is an active member of our industrial advisory board working to ensure that our programmes produce the engineers that industry needs. During 2016 Sarah successfully secured industry mentors for all of our level 5 BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering students. Currently Sarah is working on developing degree apprenticeships within the Civil Engineering area at UEL

Sarah’s academic research interests have been varied: pre UEL she worked on the large scale experimental Flood Channel Facility at Hydraulic Research Wallingford Ltd, looking at sediment transport in meandering rivers. Currently, her research interests have diversified to include looking at the benefits of green roof (both in terms of reduction of energy loss and in terms of reducing storm-water runoff as part of sustainable drainage systems).
