Biography

Doctor Maxim Kovtun graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and holds a PhD from the Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov, Belgorod, Russia. He was appointed as assistant lecture in the newly formed section of Nanosystems in Building Materials Science of the Department of Building Materials Science, Products and Structures (the first of its kind in Russia at the time) in 2006. After defending his PhD, Dr Kovtun continued his research as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pretoria. After working as materials engineer in the precast concrete industry, he became a staff member of the University of Pretoria and he is currently a researcher of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria. For the last 10 years Dr Kovtun has been involved with cement and concrete materials research.
