Biography

Lu Cai received his MD in 1983, and Ph.D. in 1990 from Jilin University (formally Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences), Changchun, P.R. China. Postdoctoral training was in Department of Pathology at University of Western Ontario in 1993, and Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, McGill University in 1995, Canada. He is currently a tenured Professor, Departments of Pediatrics, Radiation Oncology and Pharmacology and Toxicology, Director of Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute, the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and also Visiting Professor, Jilin University and Wenzhou Medical University. Lu Cai's research interests include radiation biology and toxicology, for which he has contributed more than 75 peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals including Mutation Res, Radiation Res, Toxicological Sciences, Experimental Hematology, and J Biol Chem. Lu Cai's recent work has been mainly on cardiovascular complications of diabetes, including the diabetic cardiomyopathy, nephropathy and wound healing, for which he has made a great contribution to understanding the mechanisms and to potentially preventing these cardiovascular complications for diabetic patients with more than 94 peer-reviewed publications in Diabetes, Free Radical Biol Med, J Mol Cell Med, Am J Pathol, J Am Coll Cardiol, and Circulation.
