Richard ’Layi Fagbenle obtained B.S. 1967, Ph.D. 1973, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and M.S. 1969, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, all in Mechanical Engineering. He was a Presidential Postdoctoral Research Appointee in Reactor Analysis and Safety Division, Argonne National Laboratory in 1972/1973. ’Layi has held academic/professional positions at universities in USA, Ghana, Nigeria, UK, Germany and was the first Director of Energy Affairs, later Energy Advisor, in the Republic of Botswana. He has supervised 13 PhD students and has more than sixty publications in reputable journals. He is a highly sought reviewer by international journals, with over 20 reviews for Elsevier. ’Layi became Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Nigeria’s premier University of Ibadan in 1994. His key research interests include Boundary layers; Renewable energy; Exergy assessment of Energy Systems. He pioneered three higher institutions in Nigeria between 1981 and 2008 as Founding: Director, Provost, and Governing Council Chairman respectively.
