Khandakar Hasan Mahmud (Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Environment, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh), born in 1983 in Dhaka. He has completed his B.Sc. (honors) and M.Sc. in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University. Currently studying in the Department of Environment and Geography, University of Manitoba, Canada for Masters of Environment. Mr. Mahmud started his career as a GIS and Remote Sensing Analyst in Prakaushali Sangsad Ltd. Then he joined as a Lecturer of GIS in the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management, Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University, Tangail. In 2009 he has joined in the Department of Geography and Environment in Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka. Mr. Mahmud has published ‘Ogni Geographic Atlas’ using the latest GIS and Cartographic techniques. He was one of the key members of the Banglapedia Cartographic Team. Currently, Mr. Mahmud engaged with the preparation of the National Atlas of Bangladesh as chief cartographer. He has a number of international and national research papers and joined lots of workshops and conferences. Mr. Mahmud's book "Introductory GIS" is widely used in different academic departments as a manual of learning GIS. Mr. Mahmud's broad research interests are : (a) Historical Geography; (b) Society and Culture; (c) Disaster Vulnerability and Community Resilience; and (d) Cartography and GIS. Mr. Mahmud supervised a good number of Masters Thesis and other undergraduate and post-graduate researches.
