Biography

Karen joined the university in 2002 as a senior lecturer in primary care and public health. Course leader MSc Public Health Nursing Practice programme (Health Visiting and School Nursing) 2008-14 Karen has a lead role in marketing, recruitment and retention of the SSPRD provision. She has teaching responsibilities on the PgDip Public Health Nursing Practice, PgCert Health Professional Education and leads the PgCert Leadership and management. Karen is also involved in the delivery of mentor education and research methods within undergraduate provision. Karen began her career as a general nurse and then a midwife in Wakefield and Pontefract. She subsequently qualified as a health visitor and practice teacher and worked in Pontefract, Leeds, Bradford and SSAFA in Germany before moving into nurse education. Karen is a member of the UKSC – an organisation that represents health visitor educators nationally and was secretary from 2012-2016
