Research Intrest

Iron chelators as antiviral, antimicrobial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory agents. Scientific basis for therapeutic action of medicinal plants. Isolation and characterization of natural products with nutraceuticals and cosmeceutical value. Natural phenolic compounds of plant origin such as benzoic acids and cinnamic acid derivatives, belonging to non-flavonoid polyphenols have been shown to possess several pharmacological properties including antiviral, antimicrobial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, etc. Not much has been studied about the iron chelating potential of these compounds and how this relates to their pharmacological properties. My interest is in evaluating the iron chelating properties of these compounds and their possible use as antimalarials, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, or antimicrobial agents. Their structural relatedness should enable us understand any structure-activity relationships that may be important for these pharmacological activities.
