Dr Williams was educated in Zimbabwe and came to Rhodes University intending to major in Maths and Chemistry. At the end of her first year, Dr Williams decided that Physics would replace Chemistry as one of her majors – a decision which surprised her as Physics was the subject she had enjoyed least in her final years of schooling. Her interest in Physics eventually took her to the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom where she completed a doctoral degree in the discipline. She returned to South Africa following the award of her degree to take up a position in the Department of Physics and Electronics here at Rhodes University.
Dr Williams is interested in the pedagogy of physics with current projects concerned with ways of improving learning among first year physics students.
