Research Intrest

Our current work involves biochemical characterization of the cysteine proteinases TcAtg4.1 and TcAtg4.2 from the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, a causing agent of Chagas dieases in humans in Latin America. Our goal is to develop specific substrates for both protein isoforms, which will serve as a platform for the inhibitor synthesis with the aim of preventing human infection and/or pathogenesis of Chagas’ disease. We are also interested in determination of protein-protein interactions in complex protein samples by use of proteomics, with aim to determine binding partners of different atg proteins and to find novel endogenous substrates for autophagins
