Biography

 Studies:  B.Sc in Physics, 1977, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.  M.Sc. in Physics, 1980, and Ph.D in Physics, 1985, Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM), Germany. Professional Career:  University of Cyprus (Assistant Professor 1993-1997, Associate Professor 1997-2005, Professor 2005– present).  Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) Darmstadt, Germany (PostDoc 1986-1988, Research Associate 1988-1993).

Research Intrest

Modern Experimental Nuclear Physics with Heavy Ions and Hadron Physics at Relativistic Energies. Nuclear Matter and New Phenomena in the presence of high baryonic densities and high temperatures. Particle detectors & Monte Carlo simulation techniques. Nuclear Astrophysics and Cosmology. Applications of Nuclear Radiation: Natural Radioactivity, XRF Spectroscopy, Moessbauer Spectroscopy. Main Research Programs/Collaborations: The International Collaboration HADES at the Heavy-Ion Research Center of GSI Darmstadt, Germany (founding member and representative of Cyprus) (see, http://www-hades.gsi.de/). The “Cyprus Radioisotope Project”, aiming at systematic studies of the natural radioactivity in Cyprus (first indoor radon digital maps and gamma-radiation maps, see e.g. http://www-np.ucy.ac.cy/radio_isotopes/start.html ).
