A former competitive karate athlete who was a part of the team that won a gold medal in sparring at the 1990 Traditional Karate World Championships, Gérard went on to be a national karate team coach, and helped Karate Canada develop their Long-term Athlete Development, Instruction – Beginners, Comp-Int and Comp-Dev NCCP programs. Gérard also worked for many years as a strength and conditioning expert with a number of high-level athletes in a wide variety of sports. He has a kinesiology degree from Sherbrooke University and is a graduate of the National Coaching Institute
