Dr. Elizabeth Gage-Bouchard is an Associate Professor of Oncology in the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control and joined the Institute’s faculty in 2016. She earned a PhD in Sociology at the University at Buffalo and conducted post-doctoral research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Prior to joining the faculty at RPCI she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior in the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the State University of NY at Buffalo.Dr. Gage-Bouchard is a sociologist whose research focuses on understanding how social context shapes experiences navigating cancer care and the mechanisms that contribute to inequalities in cancer treatment and outcomes. One primary focus of Dr. Gage-Bouchard’s research is examining the mechanisms underlying the robust association between socioeconomic status and cancer outcomes. Her research examines how social class influences patient-provider interactions, treatment adherence, and cancer caregiving. Dr. Gage-Bouchard also examines the role of social networks and social support in shaping access to health-related resources, health care navigation, and health communication.
