Biography

He received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, USA in 2000 (High Honors). He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, USA in 2001 and 2003 respectively. He has worked as a Research Associate at Arizona State University from August 2000-December 2003 and as a Faculty Research Associate from January-July 2004. Since September 2004 he has been in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus. Dr. Kyriakides is working in the area of electric power engineering. His research work includes power system optimization and security enhancement, use of synchronized measurements in power systems, renewable energy sources, and synchronous machines. He is teaching courses in power system analysis, power system operation and planning, and electric machines. He is also a founding member of the Research Center for Intelligent Systems and Networks at the University of Cyprus. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Member of the IEΤ, and the Technical Chamber of Cyprus. He is a reviewer for a number of journals including the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, and the IEEE Transactions on Education. He was the recipient of the Palais Outstanding Doctoral Student Award at Arizona State University (2004), the third prize in the IEEE poster-paper session and contest for the paper entitled 'On-line identification of generator and exciter parameters' (2002), the Alumni association award for the best performance at the Illinois Institute of Technology (2000), and the Presidential award at the Higher Technical Institute (1996). He has published more than 60 articles in international scientific journals and conference proceedings. His research has been funded by funding agencies and electric utilities in Europe, the USA and Cyprus.
