Elena Kuklina, MD, PhD is a Senior Service Fellow at the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Kuklina received her MD in Russia where she practiced medicine as a neonatologist and a primary care pediatrician for several years before coming to the US. She first joined CDC at the end of 2005 after receiving her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Emory University. She has published numerous original research, review, and editorial manuscripts in the top clinical journals as well as a chapter book. Currently she is leading the division research efforts on awareness and control of high cholesterol at the national level. She is a member of the division working groups that create the action plan and develop the research agenda for the national sodium reduction initiative. She is actively involved in the training of fellows and junior scientists and in the collaborative projects with scientists from other divisions as well as the National Institute of Health and Harvard University. She regularly serves as a reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals in the area of epidemiology / surveillance and a faculty member at annual conferences of the American Heart Association. Elena research Interest includes evidence-based medicine, clinical practice guidelines, quality of care measures, comorbidity measures, large database studies, public health surveillance, epidemiology: clinical, chronic disease and nutritional, preventive medicine, and maternal health.
