Efrat′s Research interests are treatment targets for Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The focus is on discovering genetic mutations and allelic variations involved in hereditary forms of amyloidoses; characterizing the regulation of amyloid precursor proteins processing; defining processes involved in the conversion of soluble protein to the insoluble, oligomeric and fibrillar forms; identifying factors that inhibit oligomerization and fertilization of amyloid proteins; and identifying factors that prevent disease-driven neurodegeneration
