Dr Ekamber Kariali has joined the School of Life Sciences, Sambalpur University as a Lecturer on 26th April 1997 and promoted to the post of Reader on 8th May 2009 and Heading the department at present. Since his student days, Dr Kariali had a keen interest on rice plant because of his agriculture family background and he started his research career in different aspects rice physiology. His research interests primarily focused on tillering of wild, traditional and high-yielding rice cultivars, UV-B resistance in traditional rices, analysis and manipulation of aroma in non-basmati scented rice varieties of Odisha, submergence tolerance in rice and other crops, molecular biology of rice grain filling etc. His prime interest at present includes identification, characterization and expression pattern of genes especially the ethylene receptors and their downstream signal transducers responsible for poor grain filling and submergence tolerance in rice cultivars locally available in western part of Odisha. Dr Kariali has published 22 research papers in highly reputed international journals and several M.Phil and Ph D scholars are working under his guidance.
