Dr Tom Nebl is the Biomolecular Interactions Research Team Leader in the CSIRO Biophysics Group, based at the Parkville Bioscience Precinct in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Nebl is using mass spectrometry and proteomics to characterise the structure, function, post-translational modifications and molecular interactions of therapeutic proteins or protein complexes. Together with colleagues of the Protein Science Group he helps to translate this knowledge into therapies that will benefit Australia's biomedical research or pharmaceutical industry sectors to develop new medicines and improve human health. Prior to joining CSIRO in 2016, Dr Nebl's research has primarily focused on the discovery of novel therapeutic vaccine or drug candidates against human diseases such as malaria, toxoplasmosis, influenza, or myeloid proliferative diseases. Dr Nebl has established a strong track record in applying quantitative proteomics approaches to the study of complex biological processes involved in parasite invasion, signal transduction, cell motility, protein trafficking, epigenetic gene regulation or host immunity. His research has been widely published in high impact journals, such as Nature Communications (2016), Cell Host and Microbe (2016), Nature Structural & Molecular Biology (2016), or eLife (2017).
