Biography

Susan Perlen is a Senior Research Assistant with the Maternal Health Study research team and is leading a project to promote uptake of smoking cessation guidelines at Sunshine Hospital. Susan has a midwifery background and has worked in maternal health research for over eight years. Prior to this her clinical expertise was in the area of antenatal care, both as a clinician and as a manager. She completed a Master of Public Health in 2008, with a minor thesis component that examined the impact of pregnancy on the health of a cohort of nulliparous women. Currently she is in the final stages of writing up her PhD investigating the implementation of Victorian smoking cessation guidelines in public antenatal care services. Her doctoral studies are being undertaken at the University of Melbourne.
