Dr. Sonal Bakshi has worked for 23 years in the field of human cytogenetics research. She carried out various research projects including ICMR Indo-German project. Dr. Bakshi was responsible for clinical research activities mainly in Leukemia Cytogenetics and played a key role in establishing fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and multplex-FISH first time in Gujarat and India respectively. Dr. Bakshi was also involved in guiding dissertation projects for PG students from all over Gujarat and other states. Dr. Bakshi was a visiting lecturer at Gujarat University and switched to full time academics and research at Nirma University. Thurst on chromosome research continues at Nirma University with six Ph.D. students and two grants from GSBTM and GUJCOST. Dr. Bakshi has been involved in teaching courses like Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Clinical Biochemistry, and Cancer Biology to M.Sc. students at different semesters, and guiding in-house dissertation projects on human cytogenetics and genotoxicity. Dr. Bakshi is a coordinator for the Social Extension Activity course for second semester students.
