Biography

Dr Sharon Lewis is employed as a Senior Research Officer in Public Health Genetics at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. After working in basic science for more than 10 years in the UK (including postdoctoral research at Imperial College, London from 1996 to 1998) and Australia (Helen Schutt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute from 1999 to 2001), Dr Lewis made a career change to genetic counselling and epidemiology. This included completing a Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counselling in 2003 and a Masters of Public Health in 2007, for which she was awarded a Commonwealth supported place through the School of Population Health, University of Melbourne. Dr Lewis was nominated as a team investigator on a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Capacity Building Grant in Population Health Research and is a chief investigator on two current NHMRC Project grants.
