Dr Patrick Tobi is a public health physician with experience in public health research, education and practice in the UK and internationally. His research focuses on health services evaluation, implementation science, and systems analysis with a particular interest in the relationship between interventions and the health and social systems in which they are delivered. His past work on DFID-funded HIV knowledge programmes in Africa and the Russian Federation involved investigating HIV/AIDS intervention responses from a whole systems perspective. Since 2008, Patrick has been part of a multi-institutional partnership developing and evaluating a Big Lottery and Wellcome Trust-funded community development programme to improve health, well-being and resilience in disadvantaged communities in London using principles of engagement, co-production and empowerment. He led the work strands on: neighbourhood profiling and mapping of community assets, trial management of a cluster randomised controlled trial, and protocol design and management of a longitudinal participant cohort study. Patrick has wide-ranging experience of working with statutory and third sector organisations through various research consultancies to evaluate and inform commissioning decisions on a range of services including NHS health checks, health trainers, weight management, GP exercise referral and integrated care. In 2008, he undertook a one year secondment to NHS Tower Hamlets Public Health directorate to support health intelligence analysis for the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and oversee production of the 2009/10 annual public health report. Other areas of focus in his work include wider determinants of health, health inequalities, assets-based approaches and value for money assessments. He is a reviewer for the MRC, NIHR Research for Patient Benefit, Public Health Research Wales, and Guy's and St Thomas' Charity programmes. He is also a reviewer for a number of journals including the Bulletin of the World Health Organisation, Globalization and Health, Social Science and Medicine, Health Policy and Planning, Public Health, Family Practice, Primary Health Care Research and Development, and the British Journal of Healthcare Management.
