Biography

Dr. van Tilburg received her Master’s in Economic Psychology and Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Tilburg University in The Netherlands. In 1998 she moved to the United States for a three-year post doctorate in medical psychology at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to starting at Campbell, Dr. van Tilburg had been a faculty member for 14 years at the University of North Carolina Medical School. While at UNC, Dr. van Tilburg ran a world renowned clinical research lab in functional gastrointestinal disorders and chronic pain. Dr. van Tilburg has over 200 publications in her name, received several million dollars in grant funding from the NIH, pharmaceutical companies and foundations. Dr. van Tilburg is on the editorial board of two scholarly journals, a reviewer for national and international conferences and federal grants; and, serves on numerous committees in national medical professional organizations. She currently holds professional office as a Council member of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society. Dr. van Tilburg also serves on the Community Care of North Carolina committee (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) to establish referral guidelines from primary to tertiary care and as a member of Rome IV charged with overhauling the criteria for these disorders.
