Dr. Pieffer served in the United States Army for 23-years, as an Airborne Ranger Infantry Officer, before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Since his retirement he has worked at the University Level serving as an Adjunct Professor, a Full Professor, University Dean, Chief Academic Officer and Campus President for two campuses. He loves working with “Working Adults” at the University Level and admires those who have family responsibilities, work, and still attend the University to better themselves and their families. Dr. Pieffer presented a paper at The Clute Institute for Academic Research, an International Conference, in Munich, Germany on Leadership in 2014. The paper was selected as the “Best” Paper of the conference. Trident Teaching Excellence Award Dr. Pieffer was selected from among five finalists. Overall, 65 faculty were nominated by 84 students in the March, April, May, and/or Spring 2016 sessions. Dr. Pieffer received the largest number of student nominations (6), and is the only faculty member to be nominated by at least one student in each of the three 8-week sessions included in this award period – March, April, and May. He also received the largest number of student course evaluations (16), and based on those evaluations attained the highest average for quality of instruction, and second highest average for faculty-student interaction. Dr. Pieffer became a full-time Department Chair in University College on July 1, 2016. “Dr. P is hands down the best Professor a student could ask for. He is very interactive with the class and is a driving force to achieve all goals. He continually pushes students to be the best they can. He always answers questions in a timely manner and guides the discussions in the directions they need to go. Dr. P has made the transition from military to college student a very humbling and fulfilling experience.” – Dustin, BUS303, March 2016
