Biography

Dr Jennifer Dawson has worked in rural and metropolitan neonatal nurseries both in Australia and overseas, holding a variety of positions including neonatal nurse consultant. She joined The Royal Women's Hospital Melbourne Neonatal Research Team in 2005 as a research nurse. In 2009 she completed a PhD investigating the physiology of newborns and the changes in oxygenation during the first minutes after birth. She is one of a small number of neonatal nurses to transfer from clinical nursing to leading research studies. Dr Dawson joined Murdoch Childrens Research Insitute in 2011 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her continuing research interest is in using pulse oximetry to improve delivery room management of newborns.
