Biography

Dr. Elizabeth J.A. Andang’o is a lecturer in the Department of Music and Dance since 1998. Her area of focus is music education and performance. Her other responsibilities in the Department include Examination Coordination and ISO coordination. She is a qualified ISO Internal Auditor. She is also a Board member of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University. Elizabeth has also previously served in the committee of the KU graduation magazine, the Tribune, between 2004 and 2006. On the international front, Elizabeth has served as a Commissioner (2010-2016) with the Early Childhood Music Education Commission of the International Society of Music Education. So far she has attended 6 ECME conferences (Taipei, Taiwan (2006); Frascati, Rome (2008); Beijing, China (2010) Corfu, Greece (2012), Brasilia, Brazoil (2014) and Ede, The Netherlands, (2016) where she retired from the Commission after completing her term. She also attended the respective ISME conferences in Kuala Lumpur; Bologna; Beijing; Thessaloniki, Porto Alegre and Glasgow. Other Conference attendances include RIME (Research in Music Education) at the University of Exeter, England (2007 & 2011), and Creativity in the Arts in New Jersey, USA (2010). On-going research activities include a Canadian Funded project, Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing (AIRS), a collaborative Project she joined in 2010. She is part of the Project’s Sub-Theme 3.1 on Singing and Intercultural Understanding. She has attended 3 annual meetings of the Project in Canada (Toronto, 2013; Prince Edward Island, 2012; Newfoundland, 2011). Additionally, Elizabeth was part of African Music Education Project (AMEP) 3 years ago, with colleagues from Technical University of Kenya; Maseno University, Kenya; Pretoria University, South Africa and Zambia.

Research Intrest

music education; curriculum development in music; integrating music across the curriculum; vocal pedagogy; psychology and sociology of music; and, cultural diplomacy through music.
