Dr David Godler is Group Leader of the Cyto-Molecular Diagnostics Research Group and a Senior Research Fellow. He is positioned at the translational interface between Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Victorian Clinical Genetics Services. Dr Godler has completed his PhD in the Department of Medicine, Monash University working on molecular biology aspects of Rheumatoid Arthritis, with his first post-doc position in Prof. Andy Choo’s Chromosome Research Laboratory, working on epigenetic changes related to folate supplementation. His current research interests are in the field of Fragile X syndrome related disorders (FXDs), the utility of novel epigenetic biomarkers for earlier diagnosis and improved population screening, as well as on mechanisms related to RNA toxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction and FMR1 protein (FMRP) deficiency in FXDs. More, recently he has applied his expertise and that of his team and co-investigators, initially developed in the FXD epigenetics field, into the area of imprinting disorders.
