Digambara Patra obtained his Master in Chemistry and Master in Philosophy from Sambalpur University, Orissa, India in 1996 and 1997 respectively. In 2001 he acquired his PhD degree in Chemistry at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Dr. Patra was a Postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemistry, University of Basel, Switzerland in 2001 and Humboldt Research Fellow from 2002-2004 at Forschungszentrum Juelich, Germany. He was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow in National Institute of Natural Science Okazaki, Japan from 2004- 2005 and later in Waseda University, Japan from 2005-2006. He was a visiting lecturer in Waseda University from 2006 to 2007. Since 2007 Dr. Patra is continuing as Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He has more than 50 research publications in various international pre-reviewed journals. He was awarded Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in 2002, Europe Research Fellowship in 2003 and JSPS postdoctoral Fellowship in 2004. He also received Alexander von Humboldt Renewed Research Fellowship in 2010. His research area includes optical sensor, fluorescence spectroscopy & probe, single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy & study, bio-photonics & bio-photophysical chemistry, biomaterials, nanobiotechnology and fluorescence study of natural molecules.
