Biography

Dr. Erwin came to RPCI in 2006 and is currently Director of the Office of Cancer Health Disparities Research in the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control. She is a member of the CCSG Population Sciences Program. Dr. Erwin graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1976 with a BA in Anthropology, and received her PhD in Anthropology in 1984 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Prior to her appointment at RPCI, she was Professor in the College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She is a medical anthropologist advancing community-based research directed toward reducing, eliminating and preventing health disparities.Dr. Erwin is a member of American Association for Cancer Research, Society for Applied Anthropology, American Public Health Association, Society for Medical Anthropology and the American Anthropological Association. She is a member and Past President of the American Association for Cancer Education.
