Biography

Dr. D.C. Abeysinghe graduated with B.Sc. (Agriculture) with a Second Class (Upper) Honours majoring in Crop Science from the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka in 1991. He obtained his M.Phil. from Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and a Ph.D. from Zhejiang University, China in bioactive compounds and functional foods. After his Ph.D. he diverted his research area to bioactive compounds and antioxidant activities of crops and developed research link with Herbal Division, Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) Sri Lanka. Dr. Abeysinghe became Head of the Department of Plantation Management in 2012 and actively involved in developing University as well as Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management by contributing his service as the Coordinator of Quality and Innovative Grant (QIG), Deputy Coordinator of University Development Grant (UDG) and Deputy Coordinator of UDG/EDP. He is also contributing immensely to develop soft skills and entrepreneurial skills of undergraduates of Wayamba University as the Director of Career Guidance Unit of the Wayamba University since 2009. He is working as the Course Coordinator of B.Sc. (Plantation Management) External Degree program of the Wayamba University as well.

Research Intrest

Research program is mainly focused on the study of health-promoting aspect of crops which involves the study of bioactive compounds (Secondary metabolites) in crops and their bioactivities such as antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungus etc. Other research interests are on Tea Agronomy and Processing, Crop Physiology and Agronomy of Medicinal Plants.
