He is also the director of the Center for Learning Technologies, the dean of student affairs, and a research scientist at the Center for Nanotechnology. Badawi has a broad range of experience in wireless technologies, sensor design, hardware architecture, signal integrity, power delivery, antenna design and electromagnetic compatibility analytics. He kicked off his scientific career in 1990 as an embedded systems design engineer at REEM. Joining Intel Corporation in the U.S. in 2000, he worked as a memory system architect, a system architect manager and a wireless system architect. In 2008, he returned to Egypt where he was appointed research director at the Center of Excellence for Wireless Applications, Intel Corporation-Egypt. He also served as a senior research architect at SMART Technologies. In 2008, he also cofounded Biobusiness: a research and development center for the design, prototyping and developing of medical equipment in Egypt. Badawi’s research has addressed questions in wireless technology network level simulations with emphasis on LTE and WiMAX (wireless broadband technologies), knowledge analysis methods and education technologies, implantable sensors, and antenna and microwave systems analysis and design. Badawi graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in systems and biomedical engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt. After graduation, he went on to obtain his master’s degree in engineering physics from the same university. He then attended the University of Manitoba in Canada, where he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in electrical and computer engineering.
