Dr. Ann R. Peden is professor and Dean of Nursing at Capital University. Previously she was a professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in Lexington, Ky. Her research funding includes grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Nursing Research and focuses on decreasing negative thinking in individuals at risk for the development of depression. The intervention has been tested with college women, low-income single mothers, pregnant women who smoke, and individuals with heart failure. The intervention continues to be refined and used with a variety of clinical populations. Dr. Peden has presented her findings at the international, national, state and local level. She was selected as on of 60 Visionary Leaders by the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing. Dr. Peden received the Best of Journal of Nursing Scholarship Award in the Clinical Scholarship category from Sigma Theta Tau International at the 39th Biennial Convention for the article "Testing an intervention to reduce negative thinking, depressive symptoms, and chronic stressors in low-income single mothers," (with M.K. Rayens, L.A. Hall, and E. Grant, 2005) in Journal of Nursing Scholarship. She also is the recipient of an Honorary Award from Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali during the International Conference on Health and the Changing World in Bangkok, Thailand, November 2008.
