Dr. Ani Etokidem , (MBBCH, MPH, PGDipMgt, FMCPH, FRSPH) studied Medicine at the University of Calabar, Nigeria and later had his postgraduate residency training in Public Health/Community Medicine at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African Postgraduate Medical College. Dr. Etokidem served as Member of the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for five years. A former Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Calabar, Dr. Etokidem is currently the Head of Department of Community Medicine at the University of Calabar/University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria. He is also a Senior Consultant to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in Public Health Medicine/Community Medicine. He is a Maternal and Child Health Specialist /Reproductive Epidemiologist whose research works have been published in both local and International journals. Dr. Etokidem was featured in the ‘’Lifeline’’ Column of The Lancet in March, 2002. He is currently the President of the Rotary Club of Hilltop-Calabar, District 9140 Nigeria where he is contributing his time, talent and treasure to polio eradication activities in Nigeria. He recently won the ‘’Innovators of tomorrow’’ research grant from the Federal Government of Nigeria and an ongoing research grant from Grand Challenges, Canada.
His main research interests is how to improve uptake of immunization services in Nigeria, research on Vaccine Preventable Diseases, reproductive epidemiology.
