Biography

Andrew (Andy) Reynolds was appointed General Manager of NRC's Energy, Mining and Environment portfolio in August 2012. Previously, he managed the Clean Energy portfolio at Alberta Innovates — Technology Futures (formerly known as the Alberta Research Council). In this role, he developed a stakeholder-focused, risk-based portfolio management approach to technology development — including programs for building Alberta's capacity in bio-energy, concentrating solar thermal, carbon capture and power integration. In 2009, Mr. Reynolds migrated to Canada from the UK after serving for 23 years as a marine engineer officer in the Royal Navy. During his military career, he acquired extensive operations and maintenance experience in advanced mechanical, hull and electrical systems, as well as a formal foundation in program, project and technology management, including industry engagement and international collaboration. Mr. Reynolds earned his BEng and MSc degrees from the Royal Naval Engineering College. In 1998, he was designated a Chartered Engineer in the UK and, in 2011, a Professional Engineer in Alberta. He is also a member of both the UK Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the City and Guilds Institute. Married to Liz Reynolds, a registered nurse, Mr. Reynolds enjoys backcountry travel in all seasons, and playing musical instruments.
